During my annual physical on October 1, 2013, my doctor sent me to Piedmont Hospital for testing about potential blood clots in both legs and the history of a few months of shortness of breath. I was diagnosed that same day with Stage Four Lung Cancer spreading to my bones (adenocarcinoma of lung and bones). No nerve roots being compromised, non-small cancer cells. I was admitted to Piedmont Hospital on October 1, released on October 13, 2013.
I began a rigorous chemo-therapy treatment on Tuesday, October 15 from 9 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. - it was intense. I will attend chemo sessions every three weeks for 5-6 hours per session until mid-March at the minimum. The side-effects have been very challenging.
I fall into the 15% of Lung Cancer patients without a smoking history. All my other organs are healthy and free of cancer. The cost of this cancer is becoming far more than I can manage. I will be out on disability for a minimum of six months and plan to go back to flying as soon as possible!
