Reunited and it "Cheers" so Good!
Please see information below from Alumni Cheerleaders member, Darlene Cavalier founder of Science Cheerleader, for an opportunity to perform at an NBA game. For more information or if interested, you may contact her at firstname.lastname@example.org no later than December 5th.
The Science Cheerleaders have been invited to perform during halftime at a Philadelphia '76ers NBA game at the Wells Fargo Center, on Tuesday, February 18, 2014. This is part of a game-day event called, “Science at the Sixers.”
Philadelphia Mayor Nutter is scheduled to kickoff the game and there will be several interactive science/technology activities on the concourse prior to the game, presented by the Franklin Institute and other well known institutions.
We are seeking up to 20 participants who have performed in some capacity, recently. If you are interested and available, please let us know on or before December 5th. We have a limited number of uniforms available and cannot guarantee uniforms will be available for anyone who does not rsvp on or before December 5. (This performance requires customized uniforms and they take 6-7 weeks to complete.)
The choreography will be emailed to you several weeks prior to the event and we will hold rehearsals during the afternoon of 2/18 in Philadelphia. Lunch will be provided.
We will provide hotel rooms for anyone who needs to stay overnight after the game. Kindly let us know if you’ll need a place to stay the evening of 2/18.
We anticipate several participants from the Baltimore/DC area so perhaps we can help arrange a car pool. We will reimburse you for your fuel, tolls and parking.
The performance will include a voice over to introduce you and your cheer+science affiliation so when you RSVP to this invitation, please do include the following information:
Team(s) you cheered for and the years you cheered:
Science, technology, engineering or math connection:
Where you will be traveling from:
Whether or not you will need a room the evening of 2/18:
We will be joined by current 76ers cheerleaders pursuing science careers and at least one cheerleader studying science from each local college cheer team here in Philly.
Two other events for your consideration:
2) If you want to perform at the National Press Club in Washington, DC to kick off the Million Women Mentors initiative on 1/8 (10am-noon), please let me know. We’re looking for 3-4 SciCheers for that event.
3) On April 25, we'll be back at the USA Science and Engineering Festival where it all started about three years ago! This is where we've had some major national media coverage. We're looking for 10 performers and we'd love to have non performing SciCheers there as well to sign autographs, talk to visitors, and lead other activities. Interested? Let us know! We'll cover hotel rooms.
We’re thrilled to have the spotlight focused directly on YOU at this game. You deserve to be singled out for all you’ve done to inspire so many other people.
Regardless of whether you can make it to any or all of these events, we want you to know how much we appreciate all you do and how much we admire all you have accomplished. It’s such an honor to be affiliated with you.
