Desiree Nathanson ~ Atlanta Hawks
What you are you doing now: Currently, I am getting my master’s in nutrition at Georgia State University. I am teaching at an amazing dance studio in Atlanta, Dance 101 www.dance101.org. I teach a dance fitness class, an 80’s hip hop class called Desir80s and a circuit/toning class. In addition, I teach private lessons and master classes in the Atlanta area as well. On the weekends, I am a bartender at “The Pool Hall” in Buckhead, Georgia. I am taking a break from the NBA, and to fill my performance void I have done a couple fitness competitions, including Fitness Universe in Miami, last June and Fitness America in Las Vegas, last November. I am currently training for Fitness Universe 2009 which will be in Miami the weekend of June 19. http://www.universeweekend.com/fitnessuniverse.htm
Years and where you cheered: I was a dancer for the University of Florida Dazzlers from 1998-2002 and the Atlanta Hawks A-Town Dancers from 2002-2008.
Why you enjoyed cheerleading and how and if it changed your life: I think the best part of being involved with a dance team and the thing that kept me doing it for so many years were the people I met and became friends with along the way. I made some of closest friends through the University of Florida dance team and the Atlanta Hawks dance team. Also, I was able to travel across the country for March Madness as a dancer at Univeristy of Florida (I miss participating in the NCAA Tournament!) and travel to China as a member of the Hawks dance team. These were all once in a lifetime experiences that I was so lucky to be a part of. I can’t say that dancing changed my life, but rather shaped it. Everything that I am involved in presently is, in some way, because of being on a dance team. Maybe one of these days I’ll give it a shot again.
