Reunited and it "Cheers" so Good!
Alumni Cheerleaders is excited to share this week's "After the Poms" story about member, Sheridan Riles (former New Orleans Saints Cheerleader). Let's find out what this talented and busy young lady has been up to.
My motto I try to live by was stated by James Dean. “Dream as if you’ll live forever, live as if you’ll die today”. So my mindset is to just go for it…whatever it may be and pursue my dreams; no matter how challenging they may be.
I began my dance training at the age of thirteen and have 14 years of dance experience including studio training, competitions, drill teams, pro teams, as well as team directory and choreography. I danced on my school’s drill team from 8th through 12th grade, receiving special awards such as first lieutenant, poster girl, social officer, dance on The Today Show, and in The Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade. Also, throughout my drill team years, I was a member of the elite dance team within the drill team and kick line. Immediately following high school, I became a New Orleans Saints Cheerleader for the 2005-2006 season and 2006-2007 season. As a Saints Cheerleader, I have had many wonderful opportunities when nominated to perform on The Early Show, Welcome Back Superdome Commercial, Dr. Phil and Friends Benefit Concert, and commercials with Sean Peyton. I was honored to be in the back inside cover of the 2006 swimsuit calendar. During my second season I was blessed with a beautiful healthy baby girl when I was told I would never be able to have children. Once she turned four months old I was back at dancing for another squad and still working for the Saints as an Alumnae so that I could spend more time with my family.
During this time, I danced for the (AFL) New Orleans VooDoo, (BCW) Bayou Babes, (SPHL) Louisiana Ice Gators, and was the Director/Choreographer for the (SIFL) Lafayette Wildcatters Cheerleaders. Being a part of these elite organizations have opened other doors as far as being a feature or back up dancer in videos and films such as “Who Do You Love” and “Chess” filmed right in New Orleans. Also, I dedicate my time to wonderful organizations such as Ky Cares Foundation which children K-12th come to learn and get mentored by NFL greats, 25 of the BEST NFL and NBA cheerleaders/dancers, and more. We as dancers share our passion, and then they have the opportunity to perform at KCF's Celebrity Basketball Game! American All Star is another organization which manages the New Orleans Saints Cheerleaders, and I have also devoted my time with them since I was a member of the squad to choreograph audition routines for junior high schools, high school dance teams, dance studio competition routines, speaking engagements, recital routines and more.
Currently, I still teach at studios and work as a CLA at Children’s Medical Center. I enjoy spending time with children at their best and worst, whether we are in the dance environment or in the hospital. As a CLA, I implement and maintain a therapeutic activity program that facilitates patients in their efforts to integrate and adapt to their hospital experience; helping each patient physically, emotionally, and mentally. This was my first year taking off from dance as a performer since dancing for the Saints. I made that decision since my family and I moved back to Dallas, TX and our daughter was starting a journey of her own by beginning kindergarten. Now that she gets the hang of school and loves it, I will be returning to entertaining. I am prepping for auditions at this time and hope to be on a squad this year. But if not, no worries… I will continue working on my biggest dream of all, which is to open my own studio. Having the opportunity to own my studio, put on shows, and share my visions with many others would mean the world to me.
