Reunited and it "Cheers" so Good!
Tell our readers a little bit about yourself and where you are you from. I grew up in Tampa Florida as the only girl in a pack of 3 boys so sports was always in the picture for me.
Were cheerleading and dancing a part of your life when you were younger and how did you get involved? I got started dancing when I was about 5 years old, as soon as the junior leagues would let me! By the time I was in middle school I was dancing for 3 teams at one time.
You are a former Pro cheerleader. Please tell us about your experience and where you were a cheerleader. I began in the pros when I was fresh out of high school at 18 for the ABA league team The Tampa Bay Thunderdawgs. I then went on to cheer for the AFL in Tampa for a few seasons before I moved to Chicago. In Chicago I danced for the Chicago Rush and sadly had a season ending ACL injury.
What is one or several of your most memorable moments as a cheerleader? There are so many but I distinctly remember my very first game with the Tampa Bay Storm. We were walking through the "tunnel" portion of the arena and I was so nervous. Our pre game dance was my favorite part of the night. The lights were down, pyro was blasting and the roar of an 18,000 person crowd was electric. As soon as the music came on and the lights starting going you would've thought I was Britney Spears. I actually won rookie of the game that night!
What advice would you give to a current or future cheerleader? Don't quit before you start. My first audition I had little technical dance training but I was so hungry. With raw talent and the right attitude you'd be surprised what you can accomplish. Goes the same way in the business world.
Tell us what you are doing now and “After the Poms”. I now own my own companies, Golden Girl, an airbrush tanning company and Glowout, a golden girl salon, an express beauty lounge. I love working with women helping them see the best in themselves. I also truly LOVE mentoring girls as well, watching them blossom into true professionals is a very rewarding experience. I launched Golden Girl University in 2013, helping women start their own businesses which is kind of everything for me. This year I plan on growing the Glowout brand starting with a new location in South Carolina, collaborating with my partners there and launching an even bigger dream is unreal.
Travel destination: France is everything to me
Book: Right now I'm reading GIRLBOSS by Sophia Amoruso the founder of NastyGal which I find incredibly inspiring. I also love Daring Greatly by Brene Brown I pass that one on to clients and when they finish we write a mantra of love for the next reader...I gotta find out where that book is now. :)
Movie: That's tough but I gotta go with Days of Thunder or Princess Bride which I grew up watching with my dad and my brothers.
