After the Poms - Shannon McKain Oleen - Former NFL & MLS Cheerleader/Dancer

Alumni Cheerleaders is excited to catch up with member, Shannon McKain Oleen.  Cheers to Shannon being selected Emcee for the Kansas City Command Football Team!!

Keynote Speaker, Shannon McKain Oleen is a former dancer for the MLS and NFL, and currently serves as the Director of Going Pro Entertainment and Emcee for the Kansas City Command arena football team. She is widely recognized as a leading authority in helping others find passion, create positive change and reach personal goals. Shannon has entertained and educated audiences around the world, receiving numerous accolades and awards throughout her career.

But the road to athletic success and career leadership wasn’t easy for Shannon.  She was introduced to cheer and dance her freshman year in high school and instantly knew she had found her passion, but in a sport where most start as children, she was relatively behind her peers in skills and experience.  Her diligence and persistence paid off when she landed a spot on the High School Varsity Pom Squad her junior year.  She continued her dance career in college, where she danced for William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri for 4 years.  It was during her college years that she faced her biggest setback of all, the premature and tragic loss of her mother to cancer.  Shannon’s college endeavors were temporarily sidetracked as she dealt with this devastating loss and familial obligations.

Yet she overcame these setbacks with the characteristic strength and optimism that so many of her friends and peers have come to recognize in Shannon.  She graduated with her Bachelor’s Degree in Communications and Political Science and was ready to take on the world.

Following college, Shannon pursued a career in corporate America while coaching at a Kansas City High School and being selected to cheer for the Sporting KC and Kansas City Comets Dance Teams. Then she set her sights on the big leagues - the National Football League, no less.  She didn’t make the squad on her first try, however. No stranger to overcoming challenges, Shannon honed her skills through practice and dedication and landed a spot on the Kansas City Chiefs squad in 2009. She proudly represented the Chiefs and performed on the Arrowhead field for two years.

Now Shannon is focused on helping others achieve their dreams, drawing on her own experiences to encourage aspiring dancers. As the Director of Consulting for Going Pro Entertainment, she helps prepare women to enter collegiate, semi-pro and professional performance teams.  She also facilitates cheer camps around the country and performs as a Keynote Speaker to help motivate and inspire youth.

Says Shannon: “I believe that cheer and dance can be one of the most rewarding experiences a person can have, and I’m honored and excited to help others achieve their dreams!”  If you’d like to learn more about the Going Pro Program, or you need an inspiring speaker for an event, contact Shannon at Shannon@shannonmckain.com
